A Staff of College of Engineering, National University of Science & Technology outshines at International Students Festival


Ms Noura Ali Al Balushi lecturer in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Department of College of Engineering at National University of Science and Technology Oman has been invited with a grant to participate in the International Students Festival 2018 hosted in Iran between 20th to 30th of November 2018. Ms Noura Al Balushi not only represented the National University of Science and Technology but also represented The Sultanate of Oman along with other two Omani Students. Among 13000 applications of different students around the world, 85 students who were chosen and invited to be part of this festival.

International Student Festival of HARKAT is one of the largest student events in Iran. The festival is organized by Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology of Iran and hosted by different universities since 2008. The festival intended to gather students from different parts of the world in a combination of a festival and an exhibition. The festival aims at encouraging student projects and activities, fostering inspiration and being a starting point for international cooperation amongst students.  Ms Noura presented her research work about the application of Nanotechnology in wastewater treatment. Her project discussed the case studies of water problems in OMAN and the different technologies that can be used for treating the wastewater; focusing primarily on the application of Nanotechnology, and her project was adjudged as top 12 presented projects presented at the festival.

Ms Noura expressed her confidence and experience, saying ‘I had the opportunity to network and exchange ideas with many professionals. I also learned many new things and this festival provided her opportunity to meet with other students of different backgrounds, cultures, languages.   I am grateful for this opportunity as it helped me show the world “How Omani Engineers” can conduct in-depth researches that have a positive impact on the environment”.  She also added that different innovative/creative projects were discussed and considered to be applied and her project adjudged as one of the top 12 projects added more value to her experience and motivated her to perform further research on wastewater treatment.
