One Day Workshop on Emerging Trends and Innovations on Wastewater Treatment

SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) student chapter in association with AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers)  student chapter of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering jointly organized the one day workshop on Emerging Trends and Innovations on Wastewater treatment on 10th October 2018 at Assembly Hall.  Around 200 students had participated and benefitted out of this workshop. The main aim of this workshop is to provide students with the required skills on emerging trends and innovation in waste water treatment. As the technology is more advanced and different new water treatment methods are innovated daily, it is a need that the students should be aware of such techniques, technologies which are currently used by the industries.  Students have shown their active participation on various topics discussed during the workshop. 


Prof Dr Ahmed Hassan Al Bulushi, Dean, College of Engineering, inaugurated the workshop. In his inaugural address he made very clear that the students should be very innovative and creative in their college days so as to come out with a good project in level 4 to solve the industrial problems. Prof Sudhir C V welcomed the gatherings and appreciated the student chapter bodies for their tremendous efforts in organizing the student centric activities for the benefit of the student’s community.

 Engineer Hilal Masoud Al Sharji, Head of Operations and Management of Haya water was the chief guest and delivered a keynote lecture on the novel techniques of wastewater treatment in industries followed by question and answer discussion with the students.  Mr Hatem Yazid, Research Assistant of Waste to Energy lab, College of Engineering, delivered a presentation on the Applications of primary sludge from waste water treatment plant as a potential source for Biogas production.

 Dr Saravanan, faculty of MIE department delivered a talk on innovations in wastewater treatment.  Dr.L. Nageswara Rao, Programme leader of MSc Process Engineering took a group work on the analysis of waste water parameters. The SPE student member    Ms Rahma Haji, Level 3 Process Operations and Maintenance delivered the vote of thanks.
