Caledonian College bagged First Prize in the national level SPE Annual Students Poster Competition (SASPC)

Caledonian College of Engineering – Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) chapter in association with SPE OMAN Young Professionals has organized the “SPE Annual Students Poster Competition (SASPC)” on Wednesday, 15th November 2017 at Caledonian College of Engineering under the patronage of Mr Junaid Ghulam, PDO director and President – SPE Oman.  The poster competition is organized for students who are enrolled in technical majors within the Engineering and Science disciplines of all colleges / universities in Oman. This event offered an exciting opportunity for all engineering students in Oman to share their research and academic work with the professional local technical community, and engage with industry professionals to enhance their technical and communication skills. As communication is a crucial tool for personal development in today’s business world, young professionals are challenged to develop and to communicate, their ideas. The objective of this event is to provide the students an opportunity to practice and enhance their communication skills, to foster an environment for growth, and to ensure a smooth transition from academia to industry. Prof K P Ramachandran, Associate Dean (post Graduate Studies and Research) welcomed the gathering.  Mr Junaid Ghulam in his key note address to the young participants of the competition he highlighted the importance of personality development  and need of  set a goal and make all attempt to  reach the set goals. Further he added that the SPE being nonprofit organizations strives to impart a sense of responsibility and over all development of scientific community. He also  highlighted the purpose and the mission of  SPE as  to collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources and related technologies for the public benefit and to provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and profess collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge .
The contest witnessed total 53 students’ participation across all Oman HEIs and it was then shortlisted to 14 for final round at Caledonian College of Engineering Al Hail campus Assembly Hall. This competition was judged by the jury that comprised of experts and professionals from prestigious oil and gas industries alongside of professionals from SPE OMAN Young Professionals.  The event provided an ideal platform of awareness and active participation of the students through their attractive poster presentation. To this effect, Ms. Haifa Khamis Mubarak Al-alawi, a student of Caledonian College of Engineering, secured First Prize in this high-level competition and received an attractive trophy and cash voucher worth of OMR 200. This accolade shows the depth of understanding and handwork put in to her graduation work, for which she worked alongside faculty adviser, Dr. Priy Brat Dwivedi. The overarching goal of her project was to characterize a Small scale wastewater recycle & reuse plant at CCE, in turn providing developers with awareness of the various issues that can emerge in recycle and reuse plant. Thus it’s worth mentioning here that this project of Ms. Hifa in the area of waste water treatment which is one of the strategic directions of CCE.
