The mutual research interest between the National Institute for Agricultural Research in France (INRA), the National Research Council (TRC) and the Caledonian College of Engineering in Oman (CCE) has crowned in the holding of the first workshop on waste to energy on 2012. Further to the research funding from The Research Council of Oman, technology was developed for conversion of organic waste to renewable energy and other byproducts. The 2nd workshop is then resulted in consolidating the findings, as well to mitigate the message of waste management and renewable energy and its successful story.

The conference had more than 30 delegates form in and around the colleges and industries of Oman along with other internal participation. The workshop was inaugurated by Eng. Ahmed Saif Al-Mazruai, Chief Executive Officer, Majis Industrial Services S.A.O.C, Sohar. He addressed the participants with a statistics on power production and consumption in the country and the urgency to look at the possibilities of alternate energy source. He also requested the student participants to look at the avenues to be entrepreneurs and be associated with waste management and renewable energy. The Dean of The College spoke about the initiatives taken by the college to be a referral centre for waste to energy and the dedicated research facilities developed by the college. He also mentioned the consultancy services and link with industries and government entities in the region. Mr. Clement MOUTEL the cultural and scientific attaché of French Embassy mentioned about the successful collaboration with French Embassy and INRA, France. He also said about the success of exchange of students and staff between CCE and France with the support of French Embassy.

Dr. Bruno who works for EDF France, stated that Germany has enhanced its renewable energy production by 40% and been very successful model for rest of the Europe. Dr. Michel TORRIJOS presented the theme of Co-digestion, management multiple organic wastes to increase the efficiency of energy production and sustainability of the system. Professor Joseph V Thanikal and Mr. Hatem Yazidi, presented the findings of The research council project. The presentation revealed that there is a huge amount of organic waste produced at the Central fruit and Vegetable market at Al Mawaleh and that can be converted to useful form of energy. The research team also presented their new findings and development of mathematical model that can facilitate to determine the efficiency of system in co-digestion.
