BSc Honours Degree in Built Environment (Measurement & Cost Engineering)

Measuring the impossible

Measurement and Cost Engineering is a professional engineering discipline mainly focused on the construction industry. As its name implies, this discipline is concerned with estimation, bills of quantity and project finance but it also deals with tender and contract preparation, legislations, valuation, cost and risk analysis.

Programme

It is an engineer’s role to design, plan and adapt technology to provide better living conditions for society, while maintaining the balance between the built and the natural environment. In this programme, you will come to recognise that enhancement of living conditions has much to do with weighing ‘desirables’ against ‘affordables’. This is encountered by learning how to manage and execute projects by setting goals, planning time, preparing budgets and considering indicators of quality while at the same time being sensitive to environmental constraints. In addition, you will learn about construction techniques, project management and corporate strategies.

Placement

Placement opportunities are provided in companies involved in building projects such as industrial projects, housing complexes, business centres, shopping malls, bridges, roads, railways, harbours, dams and airports.

Career Opportunities

A broad range of career options in Oman and abroad exist in the public and private sectors with civil engineering contractors, civil and structural engineering consultants, and in national and local government agencies in areas, such as quantity surveying, cost and risk analysis, tender and contract preparation, property legislation, and contract administration.

Awards

Students who successfully complete this programme will be eligible for an internationally recognised Honours Degree awarded by Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland, UK. Two exit options are available as given below:

  • On successful completion of Level 2: Award of University Diploma
